On Thursday, October 23rd, the Minnesota Vikings were blown out 10-37 against the Los Angeles Chargers. This game leaves Viking fans wondering where their season will be at the end of the year.
The Vikings’ offense struggled against the Chargers’ defense, managing only 164 yards.
Minnesota did not have any answers for the passing game, as the Chargers effectively stopped it with good coverage and pressure.
The Chargers also consistently stopped the run game with the Minnesota Vikings, who struggled to keep the Chargers defense at bay. All in all, the Vikings’ offense was incapable against the Chargers’ defense.
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell talks about the difficulties with the Minnesota Vikings’ offense.
“When you’re in a game where you’re down some linemen that make those known passing downs a little bit more difficult, the lack of ability to get some of those plays going [is problematic].”
The same story can be told for the Minnesota defense; they had no true way to stop the Los Angeles Chargers offense, as they gained 419 yards in total and scored 37 points in total.
They killed Minnesota both in the passing game, with Minnesota’s cornerbacks struggling to cover the passing, and also in the run game, as they kept pounding the ball and making good runs during the game.
O’Connell talks about both the defense and the offense performance.
“Nothing much to say,” O’Connell said after the game. “We got outplayed. We got out-coached. There are no excuses. Injuries, short week, whatever. It is not in any way, shape, or form our standard of what we want to put on the field.”
The Vikings will need to bounce back next week against the Detroit Lions, but the Detroit Lions have been regarded as one of, if not the best, teams in the NFL, so to win against Detroit will be hard to do so.
