On October 19th, the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 22-28. The defeat angered fans, as Minnesota faced challenges on both offense and defense today.
The Vikings’ offense was shaky the entire game. They scored 22 points but missed several significant opportunities; for instance, Jordan Addison was wide open for a touchdown, but Carson Wentz underthrew the ball, resulting in only a 20-yard gain that could have led to more points. Additionally, various poor plays by the offense ultimately cost us the game.
Wide receiver Justin Jefferson acknowledged the offense’s struggles in the red zone, emphasizing the need for sharper execution.
“The main issue was in the red zone today, just hurting ourselves and causing us to go backward instead of forward,” Jefferson said. “We’ve got to execute our plays to the fullest, take one play at a time, and when the opportunity comes, make those plays.”
The Vikings’ defense also struggled, failing to stop the Eagles on important drives, like when the Vikings needed a stop in the late fourth quarter to tie the game. They were killed in the passing game, with Jalen Hurts throwing multiple long yards and touchdowns for A.J. Brown, which made the game harder to compete in.
Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers thinks that the team needs to move forward quickly after the tough loss.
“I feel like it’s one of those games you’ve got to put to bed and can’t dwell on it,” said cornerback Isaiah Rodgers. “By the time I walk out of the locker room, it’ll be [forgotten about],” Rodgers said; also adding, “despite what everybody says in the media, he [Jalen Hurts] wins games… One day he can throw for 300, like he did today, and one day he can throw for 20.”
Next week, the Vikings face a pivotal moment. With the worst record in the NFC North, they must regroup and demonstrate resilience as they take on the talented Los Angeles Chargers. This matchup offers a decisive chance to turn the season around and prove the Vikings’ determination to rise from adversity.
