With rain and thunderstorms likely on Friday and Saturday, school officials have outlined plans to keep Homecoming events on schedule.
On Friday, expect cloudy weather with high temperatures in the mid-70s. There is about a 40% chance of showers or thunderstorms, mostly during the late afternoon to evening. If the weather holds, all events will continue as scheduled. If not, several adjustments are in place to make sure the day’s activities still happen.
The Powderpuff football game would continue during light rain, but if it’s pouring or storming, the game will be postponed to a later date during Spartan Hour.
The parade would be cancelled and replaced with a walkthrough of sports captains and Homecoming royalty through the elementary school. The pep fest would be moved indoors to the gym.
“The pep fest will continue no matter what” Student Senate advisor Ms. Nohner said.
The Homecoming tailgate party would also shift indoors to the Activities Center.
In the event of rain, the Homecoming football game will proceed as scheduled. If thunder is heard or lightning is seen, however, play will be postponed for 30 minutes from the last lightning strike, and the stadium will be evacuated. If the inclement weather continues, however, the game may be postponed to a later date.
“If there does not appear to be a break in the weather, the game may be completed at a future date. This can only be decided by the two schools’ ADs, the two head coaches, and the officials” Assistant Activities Director Kevin O’Connor said.
On Saturday, look for partly cloudy skies again, with highs close to 75°F. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are still a possibility, but not a certainty. If the weather becomes too problematic, the dance will be moved inside to behind the bleachers in the gym.
“[The] dance would be taken indoors. The rest has no set protocol, but we will be figuring that out as it happens” Ms. Nohner said.
These plans are current as of publishing time. The school administration and Student Senate advisors will make final decisions about what to do tomorrow as conditions develop.
