Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on Wednesday, September 10th, during an event at Utah Valley University.
Kirk, 31, was speaking at one of his “Prove Me Wrong” debates on the campus when he was shot shortly after 12 pm MT. A single shot was fired, hitting Kirk directly in the neck.
Law enforcement has yet to find or identify the shooter. As the manhunt continues, President Trump and other political leaders, both liberal and conservative, have offered their condolences to Kirk’s family.
“He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post announcing Kirk’s death on Wednesday.
Contemporary Issues teacher Jeff Weiland reflected on the broader implications of Kirk’s assassination.
“Any type of murder or assassination is terrible for the country,” Weiland said. “It becomes a political issue right away.”
Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika, and two young children. He was the founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, an organization made to promote conservative values and elect Republican politicians.
