On Monday, September 5th, the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Chicago Bears in a close game. While Minnesota had a slow start in the first half, the Vikings were able to gain momentum in the fourth quarter and ultimately won the game.
The Minnesota Vikings had a slow start in the first three quarters, plagued by problems on offense, including trouble running and throwing the football; although Minnesota’s defense was keeping them in the game. Quarterback JJ McCarthy’s first three quarters were something to forget; it even included a pick-six in the third quarter. At the start of the fourth quarter, Minnesota was trailing 6 to 17.
J.J. McCarthy gave insight into what he was thinking and what the team was thinking when the pick-six happened.
“It’s one of the worst things you could do as a quarterback, but you can’t do anything about it,” McCarthy said. “That’s one of those things I don’t really hang on to. And I was really grateful for the way Coach [Josh] McCown and Coach O’Connell handled it—it was everyone on the same page”
In the fourth quarter, though, Minnesota’s offense started to click, with McCarthy throwing two touchdowns to Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones Sr., and scoring a 14-yard rushing touchdown. In the end, Chicago could not keep up with Minnesota’s explosive fourth quarter and lost 27 to 24.
After securing the win, McCarthy reflected on his first-ever game.
“Getting the win—that’s what I’ll remember most. Just being here in the hometown. You know, it’s a dream come true. To all the kids out there, it’s possible. I just love my guys and can’t wait to go to war next week.” —
Next week, the Minnesota Vikings will be playing Sunday night at home against the Atlanta Falcons at 7:20 pm. This will be Minnesota’s first home game of the season.
