An act of vandalism early this week has resulted in the courtyard being closed on Tuesday, May 13th, and it will remain closed until the end of the week.
There was trash, food, and rocks found in the memorial pond and the filters for the pond, rendering it ineffective. Repairs are needed to fix the filter.
“I’m just very disappointed that students would treat the memorial garden like that” Dr. Steiner said.
The OHS courtyard is a memorial garden for all Orono students and staff who have passed away. The Class of 2004 gifted OHS the pond, but due to the disrespect caused to the memorial, the administration has decided to temporarily close it.
Anyone with information about the vandalism is encouraged to talk to or email Dr. Steiner or Ms. Head.
