Winterfest is just around the corner! This year Winterfest will be done in a different way than in the past with new events, new dress-up days, and a new date.
Winterfest is typically held in the middle of February, as it was originally scheduled this year, but was moved to the last week of February due to sporting conflicts.
“We figured that there’s like five or six sporting events the original day it was supposed to be. There’s like girls and boys basketball, boys and girls hockey, and dance.” Ms. Nohner said.
The schedule for Winterfest is listed below.
Monday, February 24th:
Monday’s dress-up day is Cupids Colors, or red and pink. During lunch, students can play bingo. Happy Heart Hunting also begins on Monday, which is looking for a heart with your name and 2-3 other names on it, hidden around the school. Once you find the other people on the heart, you can go to Ms. Nohner’s room for a prize. Happy Heart hunting lasts until Thursday.
Tuesday, February 25th:
Tuesday’s dress-up day is Pajama day. Due to ACT testing, however, there will be no other activity taking place.
Wednesday, February 26th:
Wednesday’s dress-up day is USA day. During spartan hour there will be Powderbuff, or boys volleyball. At lunch students can play Kahoot. Wednesday is also the first day of the medallion hunt, taking place from 2:40pm-3:20pm. Clues for the medallion will be posted on the Orono Student Body Instagram.
Thursday, February 27th:
Thursday’s dress-up day is jersey day. During Spartan Hour, the Student Senate will be hosting a variety show in the gym. The variety show is meant to be a replacement for the traditional Winterfest Court.
“We used to have amazing Variety shows here, and I’m hoping we can bring some of that back. We haven’t been able to get enough people to sign up in past years, but there seems to be a little more interest this year” Student Senate advisor Ms. Nohner said.
Thursday is the last day of Happy Heart Hunting and the second day of the medallion hunt.
Friday, February 28th:
Friday’s dress-up day is class colors, meant to coincide with Class Comp during Spartan Hour. Class Comp is when each grade competes against each other in a variety of fun games in front of the entire student body. Friday is the final day of the medallion hunt.
Saturday, March 1st:
The Winterfest dance will be held from 8-9:30 pm behind the bleachers in the mezzanine. The dance will include much more than just dancing. There will be some food, games, and the mezzanine will be open so people can sit and hang out there.
“I want people to know that you don’t have to come with a date, go with groups of friends by yourself” Ms. Nohner said.
