Finals week is officially upon us: here’s what to know.
Schedule:
Monday, there will be no school due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday. Tuesday will be a normal school day.
On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the schedule will be quite different. Rather than the standard 7-period day, each of these days will have 2 finals periods. Wednesday will have periods 1 & 2, Thursday will have periods 3 &4, and Friday will have periods 6 & 7. 5th period will be spread across the three days.
The first finals period will begin at 8:10 each day and will last 1 hour and 55 minutes. Following that, there will be a 10-minute snack break from 10:05-10:15.
This is where things begin to vary: after the break, there will be a 55-minute Spartan Hour on Wednesday from 10:20-11:15, followed by periods 5A-5C, and finally a 1 hour and 55-minute 2nd period.
However, on Thursday and Friday, the schedule will be slightly different. After the break, the 2nd finals period of the day will occur, lasting 1 hour and 55 minutes. Following that, periods 5A-5C will happen from 12:19-1:41, with a 55-minute Spartan Hour occurring thereafter.
Tips for studying:
If you haven’t started studying for your finals, start soon. Make sure you understand the format of each of your finals and create a plan to study. Remember: spaced practice, studying for short bits of time over an extended period, is proven to be more effective than cramming the night before a test.
Many teachers provide resources and materials on their Schoology pages for students to study; these are often great resources. There are also other online study tools for students like study.com and Khan Academy.
Study hard and good luck!
