Thousands of people are fleeing their homes in Los Angeles as a series of fires continue to grow and raze the city. The fires seem to be a result of dry and windy conditions, leading to their large size. There have been 5 confirmed deaths, and the toll is predicted to rise. According to the Los Angeles Times, more than 2,000 structures have already been burned and more than 130,000 residents are under evacuation orders.
The affected areas “look like a bomb was dropped on them” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna stated when speaking on the issue.
There are a total of 5 of these fires that thousands of firefighters are struggling to contain, the largest of the five being the Palisades Fire and the Eaton fire. The Palisades Fire has now burned a total of 17,000 acres, and the Eaton Fire a total of 10,000.
On Wednesday, President Joe Biden approved a federal major disaster declaration for the county of Los Angeles.
Officials predict the fires will be one of the most devastating natural disasters in the history of America.
