UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was assassinated at 6:46 a.m. on Wednesday outside the New York Hilton Midtown Hotel, sparking a search for the masked murderer. The suspect was waiting for Thompson outside of the hotel. After shooting Thompson in the leg and the back he escaped the scene by riding an e-bike into Central Park.
“I want to be clear at this time, every indication is that this was a premeditated, preplanned, targeted attack,” stated New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch during a news conference.
The criminal shot multiple times toward the already wounded CEO when his gun appeared to jam. After his gun jammed the gunman walked over to Thompson, who was trying to escape, and landed several more shots. No witnesses came forward after the crime.
New photos were released on December 4th of the gunman showing his full face; the NYPD did not reveal where the photos were taken. He appeared to leave a message at the crime: the words deny, defend, depose, written on the casings of the bullets. These words are the name of a 2010 book, a phrase commonly used to describe insurer tactics to avoid paying claims.
There is currently a 10,000 dollar reward for information regarding the homicide.
