Entering the 2021-22 school year, attending sporting events has become more important for students and parents alike. This year, a new system is in place for buying tickets for all Orono sports. The district has switched to online ticket purchases for all games and events. There are two reasons for the change: financial security and effects from COVID-19. All Orono events now require people to buy a ticket online through the GoFan website. All spectators are required to purchase tickets online, and no exceptions will be made.
In a district email sent to parents and staff by Activities Director Bucky Mieras, the importance of student sportsmanship at not only football games, but all games, was stressed. Also included in the email are instructions for fans on the new method to buy tickets.
The process to buy a ticket is quick and easy. By clicking the link, people will be forwarded to the GoFan page for the Orono Spartans sporting events. If one is using their phone, they are able to scan a QR code posted outside sporting events and around the school. Once they scan or click the link, they are able to select the event to which they are planning to buy tickets for. Tickets cost $5 for students and senior citizens, and $7 for adults. Going forward with the winter and spring sports, Mieras explained the possible switch to ticket passes.
“Purchasing a ticket online is a lot easier. There is no hassle to wait in line, which is really nice,” senior Sydney Govrik said.
