The first of October marks the first day that students can apply for FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid. FAFSA is a completely free form that students can apply to in order to see if they qualify for federal grants, loans, or work study programs.
FAFSA uses the most recent tax records and income statements to determine if you are eligible for federal aid. The money can be used for tuition, fees, and room and board for your college campus.
FAFSA money can be used for all schools and should not be confused with CSS, or College Scholarship Service. CSS is only used for specific schools and is also free, but does not go through the federal government like FAFSA does.
Students can apply for FAFSA on their website through the US Department of Education. The form opens for all students on October 1st. It’s an effective way to see if you can get some additional money for those college expenses – give it a shot!
