A variety show includes several acts that consist of different talents such as singing, group performances, and much more. This year, Orono High School’s variety show was hosted by seniors Margaret Kraus and Darby Sween. Before each act began, Margaret and Darby briefly introduced what is was about.
The first act was composed of senior Maddie Schafer singing ‘Rocket Man’ by Elton John while playing the piano. The second act consisted of senior Sarah Zimmerman singing French song, ‘Ta Reine’ by Angèle. While she was singing, the lyrics translated from French to English were displayed on the screen.
“I performed Bennie and the Jets for my preschool show-and-tell, and started my senior year with Rocket Man. I’d say that about sums me up as a person,” senior Maddie Schafer said.
The next act starred with poetry that was recited by junior Priscilla Cole. The following act consisted of senior Matt Koltes dancing which captivated the audience. Afterward, junior John Graham sang and played the piano. Additionally, Graham rapped as well.
“My favorite act was the poems from Priscilla because it was different and unique,” senior Rachel Bartel said.
The next performance was a duet from freshmen Faith Leddy and Kamara Fleming. The duo sang a cover of the song ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen. The final act was a cover of the song ‘Sunflower’ covered by seniors Luke Delattre, Joseph Ryskamp, and junior Jake Larson. The trio divided up the lyrics which they sang in turns Jake Larson resembled and dressed like Post Malone since he sang Post Malone’s part in the song.
“My favorite act was Sarah’s because she sang in French and it was impressive,” senior Grace Miner said.
The variety show had a wide range of audience that included students from each grade. As each act went by, students gave standing ovations to all of them. Each act that was performed was unique which kept the audience entertained and mesmerized throughout the show.
