The annual Orono High School Homecoming Coronation has come once again, marking the beginning of Homecoming festivities. A selection of 20 seniors elected by classmates took the stage in hopes to be crowned Homecoming King and Queen. Accompanying them on the stage were class princesses from each grade, who were escorted by senior sports team captains.
The event was commentated by seniors Margaret Kraus and Nick Byrnes who introduced the upcoming events of the week, then the homecoming court to the school. An introduction video was shown highlighting the entire senior court, followed by the procession of the candidates. Before royalty was crowned, seniors Matt Jordan and Lilly Anderson entertained the crowd with a vocal duet accompanied by senior Charlie Kotula on guitar. After much anticipation, the King and Queen were announced. The 2019 Homecoming Queen is senior Ellie Melander and Homecoming King is senior Finn Grandy.
“Being on homecoming court was really fun! I did not expect to be on it so when I was nominated, I was super surprised,” senior Helen North said.
Homecoming week will end with the parade and pep-fest on Friday, Sep. 13 followed by the football game against Chaska at Pesonen Stadium at 7 o’clock that night. The following day, Saturday Sep. 14, the Homecoming dance will take place in the High School Cafeteria from 9 to 11 o’clock.
