The opening week of Orono Drama Club’s production of “Radium Girls” opens this week. “Radium Girls” is a historical production about the women that were heavily exposed to radium in factories during the early 20th century. Radium was seen as a miracle cure but was extremely poisonous, it caused many fatalities to the women in Orange, New Jersey. A court case between a young woman named Grace Fryer and the U.S. Radium Corporation makes for a dramatic live performance complete with neon special effects.
