The ACT is a highly anticipated test among high schoolers, specifically juniors, who strive to earn a good score in hopes of being accepted into college. Conveniently, Orono High School holds a mandatory test for free. This year, it was scheduled to take place on February 20th; however, due to dangerously snowy weather, school was cancelled.
“(In my opinion) kids generally will do better at the school test, given that the students are more comfortable in this setting, so take advantage of it,” social studies teacher Michelle Naylor said.
Now there are mixed feelings; some students are grateful for extra time to prepare, while others were ready to conquer the test.
Kendall Mauer, a junior at Orono, had no problem with the delay, “I was happy because I did not feel ready at all and I wanted to take more practice tests. I was not in the right frame of mind the night before and I know I wouldn’t have done my best if it hadn’t been rescheduled.”
Contrarily, “The night before the test I felt confident in myself to be able to achieve a good score. I had prepared myself for the test on the 20th, and the last minute change was very inconvenient.” Ben Cashin said.
Regardless of both outlooks, the ACT will commence on March 12th.
