Valentine’s Day, also known as Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14 every single year. It originated as a Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early saints named Valentinus.
Now, Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14. It is a festival of romantic love and many people give cards, letters, flowers or presents to their spouse or partner. They may also arrange a romantic meal in a restaurant or night in a hotel. Common symbols of Valentine’s Day are hearts, red roses and Cupid.
Common Valentine’s Day gifts are flowers chocolates, candy. However, some people use the occasion to present lavish gifts, such as jewelry.
While 75% of chocolate purchases are made by women all year long, during the days and minutes before Valentine’s Day, 75% of the chocolate purchases are made by men. Over $1billion of chocolate is purchased for Valentine’s Day.
It’s estimated that the U.S. alone is going to spend $3.3 billion on flowers for loved ones this year. Also every year, around 9 million people buy their pets a Valentine’s Day gift.
