After days of delay, the Orono High School coronation commenced on the afternoon of Feb 1st. During this ceremony, the entire school gathered in the gymnasium and watched as the 2019 Winterfest court was introduced.
“My favorite part of Winterfest coronation is watching the wake-up videos of all the people on the court,” junior Ava Larson said, “It’s always funny to see.”
The ceremony began with a sequence of videos showing the candidates being awoken and given the news that they were on the court. These videos generated a buzz in the gymnasium, and then it was time for the long-awaited court to be announced to the school.
The court was made of 28 students–3 princesses, 3 princes and 22 senior court members. From these court members, two would be selected as the Winterfest King and Queen. An envelope containing the winners was walked to the stage and the King and Queen were announced; those court members being Jimmy Buck and Vivian Roher.
There were two performances from students; a song from both Izzy Bergerson and Matt Jordan was performed for the crowds in between the events of the afternoon.
“I loved listening to Matt Jordan sing and play guitar at coronation; it was for sure my favorite part,” junior prince Will Buck said.
