The wind ensemble band took a weekend trip to Chicago on April 5-7. They played in the Chicago Symphony Center as part of the Percy Grainger Wind Band Festival. The festival is an annual event where wind ensemble bands perform Grainger’s pieces.
The band received a clinic with Composer Frank Ticheli, who is the composer of their performance pieces overture to candide, country gardens, and angels in the architecture. Comedy Improvisation Workshop with the Second City was also a great opportunity that was included in the trip. The band was also able to attend the performance of Hamilton at Chicago’s CIBC theatre and a Chicago Symphony Orchestra performance.
“Going to chicago was a really great experience because we not only got the chance to experience a new city with our friends, but we also grew greatly as musicians because of the opportunity to work with Frank Ticheli and to play in the Chicago Symphony Center,” Senior percussionist Caroline Kohel said.
