Orono High School announced the new Orono Spartan Plaza to be completed by the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year. The plaza will offer an outdoor community space for events held by the school. It will be located in between the new sports center and the already existing Pesonen Stadium.
The center of the plaza will be laid out with granite pavers that people can purchase to show school spirit. The bricks rage from $200 to $2500 depending on the size. These custom bricks are made to honor and support the school, a teacher, a classmate, etc. The purchaser of the brick gets to decide what goes on it.
A replica of each brick is made so every buyer can have a copy of their own. These are at no extra cost and are included in the purchase. Personal messages, graduation dates and a shout out to a favorite teacher are examples of what people can choose to put on their granite paver.
10 percent of every brick purchased goes to support the Orono Foundation for Education’s Annual Grant to Orono Schools, according to Orono Spartan Plaza. The money goes towards funding everyday class materials as well as different programs such as STEM and world languages. Aside from purchasing a brick, normal donations can be made through the website as well.
