Pitch Perfect 3 brought an end to the Pitch Perfect franchise. The movie begins with an action scene and then goes back to explain how it led up to that point. The movie shows the lives of the Bellas, a college acapella group, five years after they have graduated college and are trying to navigate themselves.
Since the Barden Bellas are an acapella group, their main challenge is competing with teams who use instruments at the United Service Organization (USO) that holds a competition every year. The winner of the competition gets a record deal with DJ Khaled. The teams they compete against are Evermoist, Saddle Up, and Young Sparre and DJ Dragon Nutz. One of the main strategies that the Bella’s use is impressing DJ Khaled, who is hosting the competition.
The Treblemakers do not make an appearance in the movie. This news dissapointed many fans who were looking forward to an appearance from them. Fans naturally expected the Treblemakers to be in the last movie because they appeared in the first two movies. When the director, Trish Sie, was asked why the Treblemakers would not be making an appearance she said she wanted this movie to be more focused on the Bella’s individuality since most of the Treblemakers were love interests. The director also wanted to show the strength and power behind the Bella’s friendship.
Skylar Astin, who played Jesse, will also not be coming back or even making a guest appearance as Sie wanted a more realistic portrayal of college relationships. However, the movie does feature a new love interest for Beca and Chloe
This movie has more action than any of the past movies in the franchise. Most of the action is caused by Rebel Wilson who plays Fat Amy. She is also given a backstory. The movie has an emotional ending where all of the Bella’s say goodbye through an original song.
Sophomore Rachel Bartel said she thought this movie was, “a nice way to bring an end to a series.”
Overall, I would give this movie a four out of five because it had an original idea and brings a more realistic perspective to it.
