Puerto Rico was hit with a category 5 hurricane, on Sept. 20. Hurricane Maria left Puerto Rico cripple, damaging homes, roads buildings and most everything in sight. According to The National Hurricane Center, the wind speeds got up to 175 mph.
Hurricane Maria tore through Puerto Rico and caused mass destruction leaving many homeless and unable to access clean water. According to CNN, the death toll is 63 death directly related to Maria and 20 deaths indirectly related to the hurricane. Many citizens are still missing.
After Hurricane Maria hit, Puerto Rico is left devastated and in a clean water crisis. Maria left major damages to the water system contaminating water. According to The Washington Post, only 63 percent of Puerto Rico citizens have access to clean drinking water. Without access to clean water officials fear a health crisis may emerge.
Much of Puerto Rico is still powerless weeks after Maria hit. Nearly half of Puerto Rico is left without cell service making it extremely difficult to get the help needed.
Puerto Rico is still in a time of crisis and trying to recover from the devastation that hurricane Maria brought. Just like many natural disasters the help is starting to decrease but the situation still remains urgent.
