The 2016-2017 school year is coming to an end and with it ends the Orono choir season. The spring pop concert has been an Orono choir tradition for years, and acts as the finale to finish each year with a fun, upbeat concert. These concerts are always filled with fun, popular songs that keep the audience engaged.
This years concert will be no exception to the enticing concerts from years past. Choir director Nicole Brenna has been enthusiastically working with each choir to come up with and perfect some of the best, and most well-known songs of the past century.
The program will feature hit songs such as “Let it Be” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson, “The Longest Time” by Billy Joel, and many more songs that are sure to get the audience on their feet.
The concert is not only a fun way to finish out the year, but also a way to recognize the graduating seniors who are leaving after, in most cases, being in choir all four years. The seniors in choir all get together and sing Loch Lomond. This song has been sung at the majority of past spring concerts by each years graduating seniors. It is a longstanding tradition that not only acknowledges the seniors’ involvement in the choir, but also a thank you for their years of dedication and hard work.
The spring pop choir concert is always a crowd pleaser and this year’s concert is expected to be no exception. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. on May 22 at the Wayzata Community Church. Family, friends, and those who have tons of Orono school spirit are already expected to attend the event.
