The Academic Awards Ceremony was held in the OHS Gymnasium on May 15, beginning at 7 p.m. The evening was held in honor of OHS juniors and seniors who have worked hard and persevered through their high school scholastic experience. Each individual invited to the event received at least one award, recognized for their outstanding academic achievements at OHS.
Among the awards bestowed among the students, the most popular recognized individuals who obtained a GPA at or above a 3.5 at the end of their first semester junior or senior year. Along with this considerable award, students were also disposed a gold embellished pin, representative of a letter in academics. In total, 95 juniors and 82 seniors fulfilled the requirements for the achievement.
Betwixt the OHS academic awards, seniors were also acknowledged for the following: AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, AP Scholar with Distinction, Eagle Scout, Gold Award, Girl Scout Gold Award, National Merit Award, Prudential Spirit of Community Award and University of Minnesota ROTC Scholarship.
Out of the juniors in attendance, four distinguished individuals received a single of the following awards: Dartmouth, Harvard,
St. Lawrence, and Yale Book Awards. Alex Berger was the only junior given the honorary Dartmouth Book Award of the night.
“It was an honor to be recognized, and fun to have my grandparents in town to enjoy it with,” Berger said.
