The Historic Pioneer Cabin Tree, that was hollowed out in the late 1880’s, has attracted tourists, and hikers for decades on end. In the past, cars were even allowed to pass through, but more recently, it has only been open to hikers.
Despite the more recent viewer restrictions, the tree that stood over 100 yards tall still managed to draw thousands to Big Tree State Park in Calaveras, California.
Californians, and travelers from nationwide were devastated to learn that the Pioneer Cabin tree had fallen in a brutal storm that had hit the Bay Area with force earlier this month.
Although many are left upset by this catastrophe, people are seeking comfort in reflecting on warm memories, and the fact that the recently fallen tree will now feed nutrients to the forest floor below.
