Minnesota winter is upon us, the first snow has fallen and temperatures are plummeting below zero. The 2016-2017 winter is supposed to be the coldest in two years. Mother nature has already thrown some very chilly temperatures at us.
Minnesota is known for its freezing temps and the crazy people that actually enjoy going outside in them. The lakes have iced over, and ice fishers and pond hockey players are out in full force despite the below zero temps.
According to “The Farmer’s Almanac”, the temperatures in December, January and February are supposed to be much colder than those of the previous winter. The 2015-2016 winter was considered a mild one with little snowfall. Predictions for this winter are calling for very cold temperatures, well below zero and above average snowfall.
Weather patterns for this winter are calling for a weak “La Nina” winter according to NOAA weather. This means that below average temperatures and above average snowfall. These conditions are predicted to last through February. Once February hits, temperatures are suppose to rise to above average for the rest of the winter.
Despite the cold temperatures, Minnesota is a great place to spend the winter. Grab some snow pants and go make the most of the snow and ice.
