Calc Cuts Cancer started as an idea from senior Ben Engler and calculus teacher Michelle Swenson. Engler and Swenson wanted to raise funds to support the Children’s Cancer Research Fund in honor of calculus classmate Nick Manzoni. From a conversation between Engler and Swenson, the Calc Cuts Cancer drive was born, and Swenson’s Calculus BC class approached teachers to see if they would help raise money by altering their appearance. Twelve OHS teachers and Principal Benson signed up within a day. The week-long drive was successful in rasing $1300.
These teachers have pledged to do things to alter their appearances if students donated a total of $100 in their name. Students came through and all 13 will have their new looks soon.
