Robyn Swanson is a new special education teacher at Orono, but has plenty of experience. She has worked in this field for 15 years for multiple school districts in Minnesota.

Swanson has two daughters who attend Wayzata Middle School. She was able to travel to China this summer to adopt her 12-year-old daughter.

Swanson’s first impression of Orono was that the students and staff are very kind and welcoming, which is a factor that pushed her to apply for the job. Watching her students develop and grow is one thing that she looks forward to throughout the school year.

A daily routine for Swanson varies from day to day. “When working in special education, you have to be very flexible because anything can change in an instant. I just have to roll with the punches, be supportive with my colleagues and work together,” Swanson said.

This year has been challenging so far, but she said she is happy to accept the challenge and lean on her colleagues for help and support.
