Orono students and staff make an impact at the orono blood drive on Nov. 6.
Orono never has had as many students to volunteer to give blood, some students even got turned down with how busy the Orono fall blood drive was. The fall blood drive donated 86 units of blood to people in need.
Every pint donated students save 3 lives. It is a wonderful cause and many lives are saved from the help of Orono students and staff.
It is important to donate blood is essential for life: it carries oxygen and nutrients throughout the body, fights infections, and helps heal wounds. Everyone has this self-generating resource that can be given to others—when and where it is needed most.
In fact, 1 out of 3 people will need blood in their lifetime. From natural disasters to unforeseen catastrophes, emergency hospital procedures to life-long battles with chronic diseases such as sickle cell, the demand for blood is constant.
Orono also has a spring blood drive that students and staff will have the opportunity to participate in this coming spring.
