Has Miley gone too far?

Miley’s behavior gone to far?

Whether it be her new haircut, her tongue out of her mouth, her shocking performances or her sleazy behavior, Miley Cyrus has captured everyone’s attention.

Cyrus has pulled many disturbing gags lately, one of which was her Video Music Awards show performance. During her performance she stripped down to her undergarments and danced around the stage making sexual gestures with a foam finger.

In the song “We Can’t Stop,” Cyrus makes a reference to the drug Molly. Those watching her performance on TV did not hear that word because it was considered to be too profane and was bleeped out on television. According to the FCC, the context determines what words or phrases will be censored on television.

Many people were filled with disgust at her performance.

“I think Miley has really let herself go, and she’s gone a bit too far. She’s gone from a celebrated pop star to someone who is seeking attention,” sophomore Ellie Ostvig said.

Whether good or bad, the attention Cyrus is getting is exactly what she is looking for.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight Cyrus said, “haters keep me motivated. [They] mak[e] me want to do even better.” Cyrus clearly loves all of the attention she is getting due to her controversial demeanor.

Cyrus’s racy performance was coupled with a trashy music video to her song “We Can’t Stop.”

According to an interview of Cyrus in the United Kingdom, her music video for “We Can’t Stop” was considered too raunchy, and she was required to make a less scandalous one to be shown while she toured in England.

Cyrus also made a video for her song “Wrecking Ball,” which exhibits her nude on top of a wrecking ball.

Cyrus recently won Vevo’s award for the most watched video record with “Wrecking Ball.” It seemed odd that a video that is widely discussed about as being controversial and provocative would be one of the most viewed videos.

This poses a question: If people are so disgusted by her behavior, why do they watch her videos and continue to give her the attention she is seeking?

The answer is simply curiosity. People are so quick to point out when something is socially unacceptable, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to go home and watch the video.

People also love the emotion that Cyrus puts forth in her songs. It is easy to get sucked into a song that displays emotion even if the person who is singing it isn’t necessarily one of your top 10.

Overall Cyrus needs to slow down and realize where she’s at. She’s only 20, and she has a lot of life ahead of her.
