Spartans girls hockey capture first win of the season
Spartans win big at New Prague tonight and get first win of the season.
Last week the Spartans girls hockey team (1-1-0) lost a tough one to preseason ranked #4 Breck (1-2-0), 1-2, in their season opener but tonight was a different story for the Spartans, who captured their first win by scoring 10 goals to beat New Prague (0-1-0). The final score was 10-1 and the scoring began in first period when the Spartans senior forward, Stephanie Knight scored the Spartans first goal and didn’t look back. Knight’s goal was assisted by junior defenseman, Haley Nielson.
From there, juniors Ellie Martini and Haley Nielsen got their first goals of the season before the end of the first period. In the second period, the Spartans scored five goals, led by senior captain, Becky Smith, who had two in second period.
In the final period the Spartans added two more to the scoresheet to cap off their big win. Sophomores Brenna Bren and Sarah Harrison were the ones to score in the final period.
Ava Lambert, junior goalie for the Spartans got the start tonight, and captured her first win of the season as the Spartans starting goaltender. Lambert faced one shot all night, and let it in. That was the only shot she faced all night from the Trojans.
The Spartans out shot the Trojans,10-1. The Spartans next games will be up north as they play Duluth (11/15) and Silver Bay (11/16)
