Virginia Tech Shooting reported to be an “isolated” incident

BREAKING NEWS:

A police officer was shot and killed on the  Virginia Tech. campus this morning, according to campus authorities.  The Virginia Tech. police officer was conducting a  “routine” traffic stop when the suspect shot the officer and fled through a campus parking lot.   A second person was found dead later in the parking lot, according to school officials.

An alert was sent campus-wide warning students and staff to stay indoors with doors locked, as the suspect was still at large. The lockdown on campus was issued very quickly, and only lifted after an extensive search for the shooter.

Virginia Tech. was involved in a mass shooting in 2007, which caused the campus to be better prepared for today’s incident.   The shooting today appears to be an isolated incident.

Update: University officials have said that a weapon was found near the body of the person found later in the parking lot, but have not confirmed that he was the gunman in the shooting earlier in the day.
